Day trips since 2016

Hope to meet you on a day trip. These trips support arts, music, history, and nature in the Northland - Life-long learning and community building.  Come on your own or with a friend or two.

Bears and Root Bear Lady, Ely
Sept 15 /Saturday/ Bears & Root Beer Lady, Ely
We'll tour the Dorothy Molter (aka Root beer Lady) museum and then go to the North American Bear Center with a short time to explore main street Ely.  You can have more exploring Ely's shopping district and bypass one of our stops if you wish. Beautiful north woods and lakes along the way.
 Leave 9:30 a.m.
Return 5:30 p.m.

Sept 21 /Fri
Day trip to the MN Landscape Arboretum in Chaska
Explore the gardens, Over 1200 acres, model landscapes, and natural area.  You can do the optional tram ride ($5 extra - pay onsite).  We will also stop at the Applehouse which is just a mile from the Arboretum. Select from unique and award-winning University of Minnesota apple introductions--from Beacon to SweeTango to Zestar--more than 50 varieties spanning early-to-mid-to-late-season favorites. Included is the popular Honeycrisp, the Official State Fruit of Minnesota; and First Kiss, the newest apple (extremely limited quantities this season).
Leave at 8:15 a.m.
Return about 5 p.m.

Day trip to the Cranberry Festival, Stone Lake, WI 

Celebrate cranberries. 40th year for this event. Over 300 vendors Autumn theme.  Goodies. Optional $5 cranberry marsh tour..
Leave 8:15 a.m.
Return about 4 p.m.

Oct 21 /Sun
Minnesota Zoo and Trader Joes

It's this Apple Valley MN zoo's 40th birthday.  Tapir, musk oxen, snow monkeys, tree kangaroo, red pandas and more.  We will shop at a Trader Joe's grocery on the way back up. Bring your own bags.

Return 6:15 p.m.

Possible:  Dec 2 short Day trip to Encore Performing Arts Center in Cloquet to attend a theater performance of The Game's Afoot or Holmes for the Holidays.   Let me know if you're interested.  

IF YOU ARE A GROUP OF 10 or more people and want to go to a destination within about 2 hours of Duluth that is arts, history, music, or nature related and you want a coordinator for your outing, let me know.  I'd love to arrange railroad excursions, supper club stops, nature stops, historic sites, and natural places.


This is where we went so far in 2018:
On June 24 a group of 13 went to the Guthrie Theater to see the performance of West Side Story.

On June 9 12 of us went to the Scandinavian Folk Music Festival in Nisswa. 

  Fun on Friday Bakery Hop and Diner Stop  - COMPLETED APRIL 20  THANK YOU TO THE 5 travelers who went.  It was a nice day (maybe too many calories?) but fun to be together, drive through Wisconsin roads, visit and support 4 local businesses. 

 Festival of Nations    - COMPLETED MAY 6

This trip was fun. 10 people went to enjoy performances, cultural exhibits, food, and music.  
One of the Midwest’s largest and longest running cultural festivals. Cultural food, performances international marketplace.  St. Paul RiverCentre.
